Parent & Community Organizations

Working hand-in-hand with parents and community members, we serve to further the interests of the children of Colrain. We believe everyone has something of value to offer; please consider joining one of our school organizations or contact us to find out how you can help.

Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO)

Colrain’s PTO plays an important role in our school. The PTO meets on a monthly basis, has an active Facebook page, and sends out regular emails with important information about upcoming events.

This group sponsors and/or participates in many annual activities and events including parent forums; the Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Fair; our back-to-school ice cream social; Trunk or Treat; Touch a Truck; a field day BBQ; our fall craft fair; and the ever-popular sock hop.

In addition, the PTO raises money each year for equipment and supplies for the school, scholarships, and other such endowments. Last year our PTO purchased a kiln to enhance our art program. We invite all parents and staff to take an active role in this important organization.

Local Education Council (LEC)

The Colrain Local Education Council (LEC) includes parents, staff, and community members who serve as an advisory board for the principal under the state’s mandate for more local control of schools. We welcome and encourage the public to attend.

The council meets on a monthly basis and works with the principal to determine the needs of the school, to review the yearly budget, to develop school policies, and to develop and implement a yearly School Improvement Plan to meet the assessed needs of the school.

On an as-needed basis, we may hold an election in September to fill seats vacated by parents and staff members. We also invite community members to serve on the council. Please contact our office if you are interested in serving on this council.
